The Water Eagles Prep for Next Month’s Big Boat Race

Scenes from the Water Eagles Team Practice!

Some more scenes from a recent gathering of the Water Eagles dragon boat race team!

They spent approximately two hours playing soccer as part of their cross-training. We know what you might be thinking—how does kicking a ball around connect with boat racing? But the two overlap more than you’d initially believe! As team captain KU HToo noted, “Soccer reinforces many of the same skills that are essential in dragon boat racing. It requires constant teamwork, clear communication, trust, and supporting one another throughout the game. We practiced working together toward a common goal, making quick decisions under pressure, encouraging teammates, and maintaining a positive attitude regardless of the outcome.”

Additionally, the game helped strengthen the team’s chemistry by building relationships outside of regular practices and creating new opportunities to understand others’ communication styles. All in all, it was an amazing way for the team to continue to hone their craft and have a lot of fun doing it! We can’t wait for the upcoming race next month. Let’s go, Water Eagles!
