You’re Invited: WAVES to Present Groundbreaking AAPI Study at Symposium

We’re excited to share that UCA WAVES will be participating in Trustworthy Translation – Stories of Today, Visions of Tomorrow, a one-day symposium that will bring together researchers, educators, students, health professionals, and community partners to share practical examples of how knowledge can be translated into action to improve health and well-being.

Hosted by the Duke Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), our team will be sharing findings from the “Identifying AAPI Health Priorities in North Carolina” study, funded by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Foundation. The survey includes an impressive 402 respondents, focusing on Chinese, Karen, and other AAPI communities in North Carolina, highlighting key issues impacting AAPI communities across the state, including:

  • Barriers to healthcare access and insurance coverage
  • Mental health awareness, stigma, and culturally grounded beliefs
  • The impact of discrimination related to race, ethnicity, and language
  • The importance of community education, support, and culturally responsive care
