A Time to Reflect
Happy Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month!
Ever wondered about the history behind #AANHPI Heritage Month? We’ve got you! It traces back to 1978, when #Congress first recognized the first 10 days of May as Asian/Pacific American #Heritage Week. The month of May was chosen to commemorate two historic milestones: the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the #UnitedStates on May 7, 1843, and the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad on May 10, 1869, which was built largely through the labor of Chinese #immigrants.
In 1992, the observance was officially expanded to a full month, creating what we now recognize as #AANHPIHeritageMonth. Additionally, it’s customary for each year to have a theme. The anthem for 2026? Power in Unity: Strengthening Communities Together!
With it coinciding with #MentalHealthAwarenssMonth, it is also serves as a time to recognize the barriers to care these demographics face, and emphasize the importance of accessible, #culturallyinformed support.
