Strength In Numbers
Last Friday, UNC MAPS (Minority Assembly of Psychological Support) teamed up with Psi Chi to host a vibrant stress relief event at the Student Union helping students unwind and reset during a busy end-of-semester🪷
The event started with a guided meditation, followed by an activity in which everyone wrote down their stressors, tore them up, and transformed the pieces into a small artwork. At the end, the hosts played a catchy destress video that got everyone moving and shaking the stress off🏃🏾♀️ Our Community Health Worker, Krystal, attended the event, and learned that the mental health service a school can provide to students—especially to international students—is very limited. Difficulty navigating student services, language barriers, and a lack of mental health literacy are some of the major obstacles standing in the way of international students getting appropriate care🚧
It was inspiring to see this passionate group dedicating their free time to supporting their peers (especially fellow international students) through mental health-focused event.
We’re looking forward to seeing more of their events in the future, and we can’t wait to explore how WAVES might collaborate with them in meaningful ways!😊🩷
