A Training Session for MHFA Instructors

At WAVES, we are committed to high-quality training and fostering continuous growth. Last Saturday, we had the honor of meeting with Ruby Brown-Herring, WAVES’ long-time partner and advisor. As always, Ruby left us feeling inspired and supported!

This training session focused on how Mental Health First Aid instructors can be more effective and efficient in their training. Ruby shared practical strategies on maximizing training time, setting clear expectations, and using tools like the “parking lot” for questions that need more time. She also emphasized the importance of listening to participants and maintaining engagement while staying on track.

Ruby’s insights on virtual learner engagement, self-disclosure, and follow-up support are essential to WAVES’ approach to effective training. Her commitment to both emotional well-being and training excellence aligns perfectly with our values.

At the end of the session, Ruby also provided valuable advice for our Peer Support group, offering insights into the future of Peer Support Specialist Certification and resource management.

Thank you, Ruby, for your endless wisdom and support! We are fortunate to have you by our side and look forward to continuing our work together!
