On March 1st, UCA WAVES was proud to join CAFA’s Lunar New Year Banquet, celebrating the Year of the Snake—a symbol of wisdom, resilience, and renewal. As a dedicated mental health organization, WAVES continues to foster connections within our community, bringing together leaders and partners from UNC Health, United Health, DHHS, and NAMI Wake, along with students and the Karen youth community.
Our passionate volunteers distributed valuable resources on Peer Support and mental health education, while also offering COVID kits to participants. It was a great opportunity to raise awareness and promote mental wellness in our community.
A special thank you to UCA WAVES board member and State Rep. Maria Cervania and UCA President Haipei Shue for their support.

The evening was filled with vibrant cultural performances, including the powerful lion dance, and inspiring wisdom shared by WRAL’s Renee Chou. These moments reminded us how deeply cultural identity is connected to mental well-being.
The Year of the Snake invites us to embrace introspection, adaptability, and transformation—core values that align with WAVES’ mission to break stigma, build support, and prioritize mental health in every community.
At WAVES, we’re proud to create a ripple effect of positive change.
新年快乐! May this year bring wisdom, healing, and new beginnings to all!
