Duke Cancer Institute Community + Scientist Clinical Trials Equity Roundtable

As a member of the Duke Cancer Institute Community Advisory Committee (DCI) since 2021, UCA WAVES Executive Director Lily Chen attended the Community + Scientist Clinical Trials Equity Roundtable on Saturday, September 14th, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Washington Duke Hotel.

The roundtable featured insightful discussions that illuminated various barriers faced by community members, such as language difficulties, navigation issues, lack of knowledge, and distrust of the medical and scientific communities. It was enlightening to hear success stories from the DCI research initiative, alongside touching narratives from cancer survivors in minority communities, as well as solutions for enhancing outreach to these groups in clinical trials. During the meeting, Lily also highlighted how @UCAWAVES is actively investing in the Karen refugee community as an equal partner in health disparity research.
