On September 7, 2024, UCA WAVES Executive Director Lily Chen, Board member Pao-hwa Lin and Legal Counsel Emma Niou participated in a special event hosted by the Bharatiya Senior Citizen of North Carolina. This event marked the culmination of months of communication between UCA WAVES and the Indian senior group, focusing on Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) research and the exchange of health practices.

Lily expressed heartfelt thanks to the Bharatiya Senior Citizen group for their gracious invitation and the wealth of health knowledge they shared. She remarked on how heartwarming it was to see over 200 seniors coming together at the Town of Cary Senior Center, forming a supportive community.

Lily humorously shared her experience of trying to join in a music game, where participants sang songs in their native language, Gujarati. She noted her awe at how sharp the seniors were, smoothly transitioning from one song to the next without any pauses. Lily was impressed by the immense talent within the group and expressed her excitement for future engagements.

Professor Pao-Hwa Lin shared recent findings on Asian mental health research and
welcomed more Indian participants to join the study, aiming to advance the advocacy for Asian health.

This event highlighted the close connections between different immigrant communities and promoted cross-cultural health practice sharing and community building.
