Focus group in Mandarin Chinese for Identifying AAPI Health Disparity, July 15

On July 15, after completing listening sessions, we had our first focus group in Mandarin Chinese at Seymour Senior Center in Chapel Hill led by Dr. Paohwa Lin, the project Co-PI. Twelve (plus four volunteers helping and two observers) engaging participants including many seniors shared challenges immigrant Chinese American faces related to health, and suggested ways to overcome challenges.

The focus group followed the weekly mental health education and peer support by Ms. Fang Qi 方老师, our mental health educator and #MHFA trainer. Ms. Fang used role play to illustrate effective communication skills. The weekly group provided crucial culturally and linguistically appropriate interventions supporting immigrant Chinese Americans , and an effective platform for focus group recruitment ❤️❤️👏

It was great to share the fleshly picked peaches with everyone , and connect and plan for our next steps while strengthening connections with #UCAWAVES team afterwards 🌸
